First Day of School

I thought I would start a new thread....Good job chiming in everyone!
Thanks for the Anniversary wishes!  I had gotten Scott a card but forgot about it until early afternoon.  When Scott got home last night, I said, "Btw, it's our anniversary today."  Scott said, "Really?!  I thought our anniversary was on the 2nd!"
"Today is the 2nd."
"It is!?  I was writing the 1st on everything today.  Oh well, then,  Happy Anniversary!"
16 years and the romance is just as strong as ever.

Sam went to the Memorial football game so Mikey, Scott and I went to Olive Garden...obviously Mikey's choice.  I let him pick based on the back to school card.  But even Scott said, "At least it's not Target!"
The first day of school went well for both boys.  Mikey and I went to Orientation on Tuesday at DeLong.  I had a blast!  I knew a LOT of parents there so I just lounged against the lockers and talked, caught up with folks, gave out advice, etc.  Mikey is on Team I, the same team that Sam was on in 6th grade.  Two of the teachers are the same...this is the team that goes up to Hunt Hill at the end of the year.  Ms. Zemen remembered that Sam's Uncle Tim had been there to greet Sam the first time they went.
Mikey does not have anyone from Montessori in his primary classroom, but there is a boy he remembers from pre-school and basketball in there.  His dad is a pilot for Menards so we've always been sideline pals.  The rest of the class seemed a little...um....rough looking.  Not all, but well more than half...good luck Mikey!  He liked the bus, Bryce had saved a seat for him, he got around the school okay, got his locker com down in no time and seemed to enjoy the whole scene.  He was tired last night...getting up at 6:30 is a bit of a change for him, but after awhile he will get used to going to be earlier, I hope.  I am still concerned about him getting his work done.  He said, the phy ed teacher was talking so fast, everything was just getting mixed up in his head and he had no idea what she was talking about.  And that was just clothes and locker talk! Yi,yi,yiiiii.
Only 9th graders go to school on the first day of HS, so Sam had a pretty good day too. 444 kids in his grade!  Yipes!  That's a LOT  He said it went well.  "Who did you pal around with" "Everyone."  " Who's everyone?  Carl, Derek?"  "Everyone Mom!  All the kids from DeLong!"  Seems like kinda a big group but okay, everyone.
His elective is "The Vietnam War"...in the class are four freshman and 25 seniors of which four are girls.   Hmmmm that should be interesting.  He was the first one picked up for his bus the first day and from now on it will be he and Laura, the girl who lives just outside of the cul-de-sac, being picked up first.  Kinda nice to have your first pick of seats.  He and Laura are bus pals from DeLong, she's a 10th grader.
So no major mis-haps...everyone seemed pleased with their new beginnings.  I told everyone at work who asked that I wasn't concerned about the first couple of days...it's 1-2 months into when things can start to get hairy.... Oh, and it was 92 and humid the first day!  But, being modern, both schools have A/C.  Nice.
Molly, the dog, seemed to adjust okay to the change.  I was kinda concerned that she would shred all the shoes or something but she didn't.  She did find it necessary to examine the contents of most of the random garbage bins around the house...basement, lower level bathroom.  Oreo still seems super mad about the whole thing.  I think Molly is settling into the routine pretty good.  Her temperment is super mellow...no agression whatsoever.  So that's nice.  I was walking her while Mikey had soccer practice and a little black poodle tore across the street to terrorize us and she just stood patiently while the owner retrieved her.  That was a change from Pandora's style for sure!
She also will fetch the ball for as long as you will throw it, Mikey loves that!  It's also an easy way to get some exercise in for her.
Me:  "Mikey what language so you think you will want to take in school?  You can choose, Spanish, German or French."
Mikey: "Ugh!  Those are the choices?  Why can't one of the choices be something easy, like Canadian!  You just say, eh, at the end of everything and boom! it's Canadian! You're done!"
Is that true, Jacky? Is that how you learn to speak Canadian?
Tim, send me your blog link again...I can't get through via my saved one in favorites and when I type in the address....I get some other "Tim in Scotland"  The pictures are great and Festival sounded fab! What a thing!  Awesome that you got to be there for it!  Those Europeans do have that "we don't hold back" thing going on, don't they?  Those puppets....too much!
Kel, you should have stopped in on your way back from Rtown...I know you probably had to get back to work.  No hay, no pay.
Erin, too bad you're not here, teaching 6th graders, like say, Mikey.   Probably seems a bit confining to be in the classroom everyday instead of motoing across the lands of Africa.  That probably bites.  But hopefully, knowing some of your students already will help.
Scub, if I was a praying person, my prayers would be with you.  A new job is a stressful thing regardless...hopefully the girls acclimate pretty well, but it will be a challenge to the home routine for sure!  Good Luck!
Mike: What the heck?  Did the hurricane dump that much rain to cause all that flooding?  Is the southern part of your state that close to the coastline?  Sam wanted to know if you knew his counselor, ack!  I can't remember her name now...I'll get back to you on that.
Jacky and Steph...always awesome to hear from you.  Steph, you are a good writer, so don't be afraid of us!  We're all just hachs...oops see? I mean, hacks.
Whaaaat? It's raining out?  There goes my Farmers Market idea...I guess I'll just go into work...Yeah, rates are down, more work for me! Yeah!  Scott works today and Monday...I guess that's why they call it Labor Day.
I guess those are the highlights...unless you want to hear how it took about 2 hours to create the binder systems for both boys.  How do these poor kids with absentee parents do it?  It's quite the production to get all this stuff in order...and we still have to go out for some of the pending items.  I've learned not to buy EVERYTHING prior to the first day at this level.  They always come home with some specific request from a teacher.  Oh and I'm pretty sure Kleenix is part of No child Left Behind or something...I had to provide five boxes of Kleenix between the two boys.  Really?  Even in H.S.?  Is there always someone with a cold in each classroom?
Mikey has a soccer game every Sat. afternoon until Oct. 15 so that's where we'll be on Saturdays from now on.  He thought he was having heat stroke at practice on Thursday...it was a little overwhelming to have the first day of school and then go meet your new soccer team in the 90 degree heat.  But when we got home from practice, he immediately jumped on the mower and mowed the front lawn...must be theraputic for him.  Didn't even stop to get something to eat...too nauseous from the heat stroke, I guess.
Good times!  Enjoy your weekend!
